A final year veterinary student, Katherine plans to use her prize money for an international study tour of Europe and the UK.

Katherine has been studying for a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Charles Sturt University at Wagga Wagga.

In 2011, Katherine completed a one month study placement at Green Meadows Farms, Michigan USA, operated in conjunction with Michigan State University. The herd of over 3000 Holsteins is the largest registered stud in the US.

Katherine said her career goal was to study global veterinary and dairy industry issues with the intention of passing on broader information to the local community when she commences practice as a qualified veterinarian.

“The face of Australia’s dairy farming industry is evolving to include many large scale intensive enterprises. Veterinarians will need not only knowledge, but sound management skills that can be applied to these large and valuable assets," she said.

Katherine won the Coopers Animal Health professional experience scholarship, 2010 and was a nominee for the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) Don Kerr Award 2011.

She has been an active member of her local community for many years, both in and outside dairying circles.

Katherine is a student member of the AVA and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners.

Away from her studies Katherine volunteers her time at local endurance rides as a temperature, pulse and respiration steward. She also assists with the Vinnies Youth school breakfast programs.

Executive chairman of H W Greenham Pty Ltd, Peter Greenham, said the company offered the scholarship to encourage future leaders in agriculture.

“Scholarship applications each year are assessed by a panel of four independent judges from industry and education sectors.

“Among criteria considered in awarding the scholarship are personal and academic achievements, the potential benefits and relevance of the chosen study area or career path to the Australian beef and dairy industries and how important the scholarship might be in helping the applicant realise his or her ambitions,” Mr Greenham said.
