It’s on again – tip yourself into the 'Ultimate Grand Final Experience'

2005-03-30

Tongala meat processor HW Greenham & Sons Pty Ltd will again give local dairy and beef producers the chance to test their footy expertise and win the "Ultimate Grand Final Experience".

The company has set up its own weekly footy tipping competition for the 2005 Australian Football League season, but the rules are very different to standard competitions.

Instead of having to pick the most winners across the whole season, people will have a chance every week to qualify for a draw to win the major prize, which will be worth about $4500.
Greenhams Footy Tipping

“The competition has been designed to give as many people as possible the opportunity to win, whether they see themselves as the region’s top footy expert or not,” said Greenham livestock manager Graeme Pretty.

Last year’s competition saw more than 1000 people play the tipping game, with 148 names going into final draw. The winners, Adrian and Melanie Cole, went to Melbourne for a memorable weekend of top footy and entertainment with accommodation and meals provided.

“The competition rules are simple,” Graeme said. “When producers sell us their cattle, no matter how big or small the delivery, they will automatically qualify to enter their tips for the round that falls immediately after their delivery.

“We have produced some special tipping forms. Tipsters just need to fill one in and send it in with their cattle.

“Suppliers can give the form to their carrier or Greenham buyer, or drop it off at one of our selling centres or the Tongala plant. They can even fax or post it in – but it must reach us by 5pm on the Thursday before the round starts,” he said.

The winner, or winners, for the week will be the entrant (or entrants) with the greatest number of correct tips for that round. Each week's winners will go into a draw for the Grand Prize.

“Unfortunately because of various regulations and legislative processes effecting ticket allocations for the AFL Grand Final, we can’t announce the details of the actual prize at this stage. But we can say it will definitely be worth going for,” Mr Pretty said.

To cater for the not so experienced tippers, Greenham will also randomly draw a ‘wild card’ entry every week from among all those received, to go into the final draw.

The competition starts this month, with tips for the first round due in by 5pm, Wednesday March 23, for the round of games starting on Thursday, March 24 – the day before Good Friday.

Anyone who supplies cattle to Greenham from March 17 up until that time will quality to enter the first round.

The deadline will revert to 5pm Thursdays the following week with the competition running until the final minor round at the end of August.

Weekly winners will be announced via Greenham’s advertisement in the Country News – but because of publication deadlines suppliers will have to wait until the following week to see how they have fared.

Alternatively, they can visit the company’s website at www.greenham.com.au, and register to receive the results by email immediately after they become available.

Full entry conditions are printed on the tipping form, which is being mailed out to Greenham suppliers this month with an official program. The form can also be downloaded from the website.
