FARMERS and producers were able to see the progress of renovations at Greenham Tasmania Smithton plant first-hand on Saturday.

About 300 farmers donned protective clothing to inspect the state-of-the-art boning room at Greenham's Smithton processing plant during the factory open day.
Greenham Tasmania managing director Peter Greenham said the open day was a "one off” chance for the industry to meet.
"It was a great day,” he said. "It was a chance for our farmers to meet up with our wholesalers. There was over 30 people in total, about 250 farmers and 50 others.”
Farmers took a tour through the plant and were able to inspect the renovations.
"We were able to show our customers what we have been doing in the boning room, with the renovations,” Mr Greenham said. "They were able to look at carcases and the meat that comes from the carcases."
Over lunch at the Smithton Football Club, wholesalers and farmers talked to the group about their businesses.
Owners of Japanese restaurant supply chain Aleph also visited the plant.
"They were over (in Tasmania) for a week,” Mr Greenham said. "They come every year to meet up with producers that supply them beef.”
Mr Greenham said plant renovations were about 80-90% finished, with completion expected about February or March next year.
