2010-09-08
Managing director of Greenham Tasmania, Peter Greenham will be in town this month overseeing the million dollar renovations at the Smithton factory and be a guest speaker at a Circular Head Progress Group event. Mr Greenham said the renovation, which includes upgrading the boning room, freezing area and slaughter floor, has been going well.
The factory is closed for the next two weeks as building continues and workers will take their holiday pay during this time. The factory will re-open on September 20. In June this year Mr Greenham said a further 20 to 25 people will be employed mostly in the boning and slicing room. This will not happen until later in the year as the factory's processing capacity must increase before more employees can be hired.
Mr Greenham's second commitment to the area will be his CHPG presentation about the power of "branding" particularly the company's sought after product Cape Grim Beef. This beef is marketed as top quality beef free from hormones and is used and sold in fine dining restaurants such as Neil Perry's Rockpool Bar and Grill in Melbourne and quality butchers.
Project Officer of the CHPG Sue Popowski said, '[Greenham Tasmania] arrived in Smithton nine years ago and they're gradually worked their way to a good product and branding ... from this talk soneome might say, "we can do it. We can brand our own product." ' The event has been organised as a social evening so local business owners have the opportunity to network with one another. After Mr Greenham's presentation there will also be a tasting of Cape Grim Beef.
