Winning a trip to Melbourne would be great news for anyone, but for Tongala dairy farmers Mitchell and Judie Harvie, the chance to go to the Grand Prix is a dream come true.
Confirmed motor sport fans, the Harvie’s were thrilled to hear they won a weekend in Melbourne to see the Grand Prix just for selling their cattle to Greenham.
“We would normally be running 120 head but have had to cut back to around 70 cows with the drought. We took them all to Greenham – it was hard to have to sell half the herd,” said Mitchell.
“I knew about the competition when I sold the cattle, but had put the thought of winning out of my mind. It’s really nice to have something good come out of a bad situation.”
The competition run by HW Greenham & Sons was open to anyone who sold cattle to them during December and January this summer. The prize includes two grandstand tickets to all four days of the Melbourne Grand Prix and accommodation.
“We are really looking forward to the weekend. Our parents are taking care of the farm and kids so we can go. It’s something we would never get to do otherwise,” said Mitchell.
Both Mitchell and Judy are enthusiastic about motor sport. The couple own a Honda SP1 they take to the track for fun days, and a Honda Blackbird they have done a few charity rides with.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing all the action, and of course it would be great to see Mark Webber do well. This is going to be an unbelievable experience.”
