Darryl will be able to enjoy the “ultimate grand final experience” with all the trappings including pre-match brunch, accommodation and meals.
The competition, which started from the first round of the season, was open to anyone who sold cattle to Smithton-based Greenham Tasmania between March 17 and the end of August. Tipping forms were available at all Greenham Tasmania buying centres for the whole season.
A lifetime resident – and farmer of Smithton, Darryl has been selling cattle to Greenham ever since the company took over the Blue Ribbon plant.
“I like to be loyal to people and businesses in my district,” he said. “I’ve always like sport and I love the footy so the Greenham footy tipping competition was a good opportunity to have a bit of fun. And I got into the draw twice, so it wasn’t just luck”
“A lot of the farmers I know are also keen on footy so there was always a bit of chat going on around the place. It would be good to see Greenham run it again next year.”
With his favourite team, St Kilda, now a finals contender, Darryl said he was looking forward to the weekend away, which will be hosted by Greenham.
“I’m going to take a mate of mine, Craig Hill, who is a local farmer and a pretty keen footy fan. We’ll have a bit of fun.”
There were more than 240 entries in the competition with 75 names going into the final draw. Suppliers who picked the most winning teams each week plus a random draw from the week’s entries went into the final draw.
